“she’s mine” (lyrics)

There’s already an alternate version of these lyrics, which is funny considering that no one has recorded this song, or is actively performing it. That is, besides me walking around my own house singing it.

Substitute the “God almighty” in the chorus for a one-word expletive with the same number of syllables, with the first one staying the same. I’m refraining from spelling out the obvious here, since my nearly 80-year-old mother would find it distressing to know I was writing such truck, and in the end, I’m a real mama’s boy. That said, it is a whole lot more fun singing it that way … | (c) Frank Rabey

She’s mine

She’s just about as mad as she can be

Standing naked in sneakers ‘neath the sweetgum tree

Throwing losing tickets to the lottery

At me, at me, at me

She’s mine, oh Lord, she’s mine

She blows dandelion heads up in my face

Till my hair’s full of seeds and my mouth with the taste

She used to run from me just to see if I’d chase

And I’d chase, I’d chase, I’d chase

Till she was mine, oh Lord, she’s mine

CHORUS: She’s mine

That’s right, that’s what I said

She’s mine

That is, unless I’m hers instead

She’s mine

For richer or for poorer

She’s mine

And God almighty, I adore her

She’s mine

Oh, Lord, she’s mine

She hides from the door, she never answers the phone

She’ll call me sometimes, says she feels so alone

Says, One of us is Sisyphus, the other the stone

Roll on, I say. Roll on

She’s mine, oh Lord, she’s mine

She likes to open all the windows just to let in the rain

She’ll sucker-punch pain then dare me to complain

She cries at the sound of a 4 a.m. train

No one’s sane, she says. No one’s sane

And she’s mine, oh Lord, she’s mine

CHORUS

BRIDGE: She’s mine

The truth’ll set you free

She’s mine, oh Lord, oh Lord

Oh pity me, that she’s mine

She’s mine, oh Lord, she’s mine

She’s hell to watch as she gets undressed

Undoing the buttons of her bullet-proof vest

But when she exposes the glory of her chest

Oh, I’m blessed, I’m blessed, I’m blessed

She’s mine, oh Lord, she’s mine

So I wait and I wait, I’ll keep waiting until

I’ll gladly pay any bill for what time doesn’t kill

She says, My heart is a gun, and these bullets are real

Well, fire at will, babe, fire at will

She’s mine, oh Lord, she’s mine

CHORUS

BRIDGE 2: She’s mine

The truth’ll set you free

She’s mine, oh Lord, oh Lord

Oh, let it be that she’s mine

Let it be she’s mine

She’s mine, oh Lord, she’s mine
